"My Favorite Woodblock Artists" could be an endless list. Seems
whenever I feel that I'vee seen most historical printmakers, someone
appears that I've never seen before. I've know Ernest Watson forever
from all the instructional books he published as Watson Guptill. A
number of years ago I saw a print that was so exciting, bought it and
then it dawned on me who he was. He developed such an innovative
approach to printmaking that is not bound by tradition.
Watson worked on linoleum which allowed him to create some great textural effects. His inking process is what has been so influential to my work. A single block would be inked with multiple colors for a single printing.
